Recovery for Those with Eating Disorders

When was the last time that you have taken care of yourself? Some people haven’t taken care of themselves for a long time because they were busy taking care of other people. Some have stopped taking care of themselves because they feel like they do not deserve it.

Others have started to suffer from eating disorders because they feel like this is the only thing that they can control. Other people have also started to have this because they do not feel that they are accepted by society because of their weight. People with eating disorders are recommended to a counselling clinic in Grimsby.

Why Do Eating Disorders Start?

One thing is for sure – eating disorders do not just happen. It is something that can develop over time and may be caused by different factors. For example, some people get affected when they are told time and time again that they are too fat. Some would develop eating disorders because of what other people would say about their appearance.

Some would develop eating disorders after suffering from a traumatic event in their life. Some would develop it because they have tried a diet fad and have lost some weight. They have gotten a lot of compliments about their weight loss and they became obsessed with it.

Types of Eating Disorders

There are different types of eating disorders but some have gotten more popular as compared to others.

Anorexia – This is a type of eating disorder wherein people will experience significant weight loss because of eating far less than their prescribed calories. People who have anorexia may not realize that they are already very thin because they would still do other activities that are meant to help them lose weight. The time will come when some of them would die because of complications. Their organs may start shutting down because they are not getting enough nutrients.

Bulimia – This is a type of eating disorder wherein people would binge eat all of the food that they can eat whenever they feel like it. Then, these people would feel guilty about all the food that they have eaten so they would try to vomit all of the food they ate. Some would consume a total of 20,000 calories in a day and would try to vomit all of the food.

Binge Eating Disorder – This is a type of eating disorder wherein people would do some binge eating but would feel sad about it after all. They would not vomit the food like how those who are suffering from bulimia do. Yet, they would feel depressed about the things that they have gone through.

Can People Get Treatments for Eating Disorders?

The first step that people have to do is to acknowledge that they have a problem. The moment that they know about this, it’s the time when they can start looking for the best things to do to help them get better. There are counselling clinics that are available wherein people can visit.

Finding Balance in Your New Workplace, Home Sweet Home

Within a month of COVID-19 taking a hold within North American borders, Forbes published Three Warning Signs That Your Remote Employees Are Starting To Crack Under The Stress Of Working From Home. Now, the question remains as to whether or not this article was a reflection upon what was occurring to date, or a heads up for the wave of the increased workers who quickly were forced to create home offices.

Well, the writer of this article, her friends and her clients, all from various professions, almost immediately discovered the following stressors: Grocery delivery orders arriving too early, and in the middle of appointments. Extra time needed to set-up virtual meetings. Kids and pets, though cute, demanding attention all day and at the most interesting moments. Email exchanges having seemingly to go way past the typical workday schedule. Workspaces being either too dark or too light, and uncomfortable. Not one of these stressors politely immerged slowly. In fact, they all felt as if they descended at the same time.

HERE COMES MORE CHANGE…WELCOME!

The one thing we can seem to count on, is that life changes whether we want it to or not. In fact, sometimes it feels as though the changes far outweigh the status quo, especially in 2020. Even without a global pandemic, changes in life are continuous, every day some encounter or experience can shift our thinking whether infinitesimally or profoundly. Just the passing of time presents changes invisible on a daily basis but over a decade or more, we realize the change can be significant. How often do we look at our children and wonder where did the time went or we reach our 25- year anniversary in the job we were only intending on staying in for two years!

Change is constant.  Change is a given.  Change happens whether we welcome it or want to run from it.  The good news is that how we react to change can profoundly shape the experience and at the centre of what can sometimes feel like a turbulent sea we can, with awareness and practice find a sense of calm – within ourselves [through mindfulness].  Often we look outside ourselves especially when things are not going the way we had planned, hoped or wanted.
